Access 2000 Tutorial 4 Internet Assignments

Creating Reports

Maria and Hector Lopez like the report that you created in Case 4. They would like you to prepare a second report that shows the Location Name, Selling Price, Vehicle ID, Year, and Average Selling Price for each model. Because they will distribute the report to employees, it must look professional. You decide to create the report using Access, and then copy an appropriate image from the Internet to insert into the report.

Before beginning this assignment, you must have already completed all Internet Assignments from previous Access tutorials.

  1. Insert a blank formatted disk labeled "Internet Assignments" in the appropriate disk drive. Next, right-click the Lopez Logo image below, click Save Image As... on the shortcut menu, and then save the image as Lopex Logo on your disk.Lopez logo

  2. Start Access and open the Lexus database that you downloaded.

  3. Use the Report Wizard to create a report based on the Cars and Locations tables. Add the Vehicle ID, Model, Year, and Selling Price fields from the Cars table, and then add the Location Name field from the Locations table. View your data by the Cars table and add a grouping level on the Model field. Sort the data by Location Name, and then by Selling Price. Click the Summary Options button, and then click the Avg Selling Price check box to calculate a summary value based on this field. Choose the Align Left 1 layout and the Soft Gray style. The title of the report is "Lopez Lexus Dealership Models."

  4. Open the report in Design view. Insert the image you copied from the Internet and saved on your Internet Assignments disk under the title in the Report Header section. Center and move the picture as needed.

  5. Change the Avg Selling Price calculated field to display values as currency. To do this, right-click the =Avg([SellingPrice]) field in the Model Footer in Design view, click Properties on the shortcut menu, and then type Currency in the Format property setting. Close the window.

  6. Preview the report.

  7. Save the report design and then print it.

  8. Close Access.
