Recently there has been an outbreak of influenza, or flu, in the Pleasant Valley Independent School District. The Superintendent thought it would be a good idea to give a brief presentation to inform teachers and parents about flu symptoms and treatment, and asks you to prepare the presentation. After doing some
research on the Internet, you discover a document published by the National Institutes of Health that provides useful information about the flu. The head nurse for the district has provided you with some information about the number of flu cases for each school. You will need to download the file with this information.
Download flu.ppt (62K) to use for this assignment.
Download the Flu presentation file and save it on a blank, formatted disk labeled "PowerPoint 2000 Level II Internet Assignments." You'll use this same disk to save the Internet Assignments for Tutorials 3 and 4.
Click the National Institutes of Health link, click the Search NIH link, type "Flu" in the Enter words or phrases, separated by commas text box, and then click the Search button.
Click the link to retrieve the Flu, NIAID Fact Sheet (you may need to scroll), and then print it.
Log off the Internet, and then close your Web browser.
Start PowerPoint, create a blank presentation, and then click Cancel in the New Slide dialog box.
Insert the entire presentation file Flu from your PowerPoint 2000 Level II Internet Assignments disk, and then save the new file as Flu Presentation to the same disk.
Create a design template for the presentation, using the color scheme, background, and fonts of your choice.
Add your name as the subtitle on the title slide.
On slide 2, use the information you found on the Internet to create a bulleted list of flu symptoms. Remember to use the 6 x 6 rule for your bulleted list.
Add an appropriate clip-art image to slides 3 and 4.
In slide 5, add a chart that lists the name of each
school and the number of flu cases from 2001 and 2002 as follows: Ridgeview, 33 in 2001 and 45 in 2002; Cedar Park, 34 in 2001 and 57 in 2002; Hill Country, 15 in 2001 and 32 in 2002; and Westlake High, 4 in 2001 and 65 in 2002. Add the title "Number of Flu Cases" to the chart.
Add a new slide 6 using the Bulleted List AutoLayout. The new slide's title is "Complications." Use the information you found on the Internet to type into the bulleted list the complications that arise from having the flu.
Add transition effects for all slides, and add animation effects (with sound and dimming of previous points) for all slides with bulleted lists.
Run the Style Checker to ensure that your slides are consistent and the spelling is correct.
Select the option to display a black slide to signal the end of the presentation.
Save the presentation, print the presentation as handouts with two slides per page, and then close the file.
