Presentation on Cities with Good Job Opportunities

You are the president of a school organization that consists of students who are majoring in technical fields. Because jobs in technical fields usually are available in higher concentrations in certain cities, you decide to prepare a PowerPoint presentation to give to group members about two cities that you have identified as having good job opportunities. You will include hyperlinks to different Web sites for each city so you can demonstrate the Web sites during your presentation. Do the following:

  1. Use the link to the search engine Yahoo to find the city pages for Austin, Texas, and Raleigh, North Carolina. Click the U.S. States link under the Regional category, click the state that you need to search in, click the Cities link to open a list of cities, and then click the link for the city you want to search for. Explore these Web pages and then gather and print information about each city's housing situation, recreational events, and employment opportunities.

  2. Write down the URL (Web address) of the sites that contain information you plan to use about each city, as you will create hyperlinks in your presentation to these sites.

  3. Log off of the Internet, and then close your Web browser.

  4. Create an outline (except for the title slide) of your presentation using Word. Include at least five first-level headings. Save the document as City Outline to your PowerPoint 2000 Level II Internet Assignments Disk. Possible slide titles include "Housing Situation," "Recreational Activities," "Economic Forecast," and "Employment Opportunities."

  5. Check the spelling of your outline.

  6. Save the document, print a copy of the outline, and then exit Word.

  7. Create a blank PowerPoint presentation with a title slide. Choose your own title, and use your name as the subtitle on the title slide.

  8. Import the Word outline file located on your PowerPoint 2000 Level II Internet Assignments disk to create the rest of the slides in the presentation.

  9. Save your presentation as City Search on your PowerPoint 2000 Level II Internet Assignments disk.

  10. Apply an appropriate template or create your own design for the presentation.

  11. Embed clip-art images or other pictures on two or more slides.

  12. Use Excel to create at least one chart on some aspect of the cities, save the Excel workbook on your PowerPoint 2000 Level II Internet Assignments disk, and then link the chart to one of the slides. For example, you might want to display an Excel pie chart showing the number of rental units available in one of the cities with two pie pieces-one for occupied, and the other for unoccupied. If you can't find this kind of information, use reasonable estimates based on your research. Add an appropriate title and axis names to your chart.

  13. Apply appropriate slide transitions and animation to slides in your presentation.

  14. Enter additional text on the slides as needed to complete the presentation content.

  15. Create a summary slide with the title "Contents of Presentation," and then move it after the title slide of your presentation.

  16. Add hyperlinks in appropriate places in your presentation for the sites that you visited on the Internet. (You should have recorded the URL for these sites in Step 3 of this Internet Assignment.)

  17. Save your presentation, and then print your slides as handouts with six slides per page.

  18. Save the presentation as a set of HTML documents on your PowerPoint 2000 Level II Internet Assignments disk, and then view the pages using a Web browser.

  19. Close the Web browser and PowerPoint.
