Access 97 Tutorial 1 Internet Assignments

Lopez Lexus Dealerships

Maria and Hector Lopez are pleased with how well Access tracks their car inventory. Maria and Hector are considering expanding their Houston dealership to include pre-owned Lexus automobiles. They would like for you to use the Internet to search for pre-owned Lexus automobiles for the models that are currently in stock at the dealership to compare selling prices and overall availability. First you will use Access to determine the models in stock, and then you will search the Internet for model information.

Before beginning this assignment, you must have already completed all Internet Assignments from previous Access tutorials. Please continue to use the file Lexus.mdb from your Internet Assignments disk to complete this assignment.

  1. Open the Lexus database from the Cases folder on your Student Disk, click the Queries tab, and then click the New button.
  2. Click Simple Query Wizard and then click the OK button. Click the Tables/Queries list arrow, and then click Table: Cars. Use the Simple Query Wizard to include the Manufacturer, Model, and Year fields in your new query. In the second Simple Query Wizard dialog box, click the Summary option button, and then click the Summary Options button. Click the Count records in Cars check box in the Summary Options dialog box to count the number of cars currently in stock. Finish the query, and then save it as Models list.
  3. Sort the query results in ascending order on the Count of Cars field using the Sort Ascending button on the toolbar, and then save and print the query results and close Access. You will search for the models with two or less cars in stock.
  4. Log on to the Internet and use your Web browser to go to the Course Technology home page. Click the Student Online Companions link, and then click the New Perspectives on Microsoft Office 97 Professional link to open the New Perspectives on Microsoft Office home page. Click the Access 97 link, and then click the Tutorial 1 Internet Assignment link.
  5. Explore the links to vehicle services, such as Classifieds2000, Lexus, or Automobiles.com, to find at least four pre-owned Lexus cars located in Texas and manufactured in the past five years that are the same models you found in your Models list query. (If you cannot locate any cars in Texas, search in another state.) Print the page for each car you research. When you are done searching, close your Web browser.
  6. Open a new document in Word to write a brief memo to the Lopez Lexus Dealership discussing the pricing and availability of pre-owned cars that would fit into their dealership using the information you found on the Internet. Save the document to a blank formatted disk labeled "Internet Assignments" as Lexus memo.
  7. Print the memo and then close Word.
  8. Submit your memo and the printed Web pages to your instructor.
