Motivation Seminar Books
Cheryl Lynnville, Manager of Human Resources where you work, has decided to offer a series of motivational seminars. Cheryl has decided that the company should purchase books for the employees who attend the seminars. She has found six book titles that provide a good basis for these seminars. Cheryl has asked you to research the cost of these books to provide some input as she considers which book she will use. She has asked that you visit the Amazon website and gather information about these books. Cheryl will be purchasing 100 books and has asked for you to gather the information about purchasing these books. Once you have gathered the information, you will place the data in the Motivational Books database.
Start Access and then open the Motivational Books database that you download.
Open the Books table. Notice that Cheryl's selection of books is listed in the table. However, the data she needs to support her decision is not yet in the table.
Open your web browser and navigate to the www.amazon.com
website. Look up each of the books and fill in the missing information.
Cheryl wants to know how much each book costs per page. Create a query, Price per Page that will show the book title, the price, the number of pages and the cost per page (Calculated by dividing the price by the number of pages). Print the query datasheet. Sort the data in descending order by the Cost per Page field (the calculated field you added to calculate this amount). Make sure that the calculated field is formatted as currency.
Cheryl chose these books mainly because the author of the book was recommended to her by some of her colleagues. She would like to know if these authors have other books available on Amazon. Create a new table named Authors using the table design shown below.
Field Name | Data Type | Description | Field Size |
Author | Text
| primary key | 25 |
Number Books | Number | Number of books available at Amazon |
|
|
Create a query, Books by Author that includes the Name of the book Cheryl chose, the author's name, and the number of books available for this author through Amazon. Print the datasheet.
Close any open tables and/or queries, close the database, and close Access.
