Selecting Peripheral Devices

Peripheral devices add functionality to your computer system by giving you different options for input, output, and storage. If your budget is limited, you do not have to include all of these devices when you buy your computer system. You can add any of them to your computer system later as your needs and budget permit.

It seems there is an endless array of peripheral devices from which to choose. Some are so much a part of your computer system that you might not think of them as peripherals. The following is a list of peripherals – those that are generally included when you buy a basic computer system and those that you might want to add for fun. You can usually upgrade your peripherals – for example, purchasing a color or photo printer to replace a black and white printer. If you plan to upgrade, be sure your computer system meets the requirements listed for the new peripheral. To find out more about any of the peripherals listed here, use your favorite search engine and conduct a search on the Internet using the peripheral name as the keyword.
